4: Foil Tape

Bend the whole display assembly down carefully, so that the laptop is easier to work with. Note that it's best not to close the laptop all the way, but to leave it slightly open. A metal tray is secured to the LCD by yellow tape on the sides and shiny, foil tape in the center. This is where we focus our attention next.

The foil tape shown covers an opening in the metal tray, and covers the connection between the data port on the back of the LCD device and the data cable coming from the laptop motherboard. Carefully remove this shiny tape, as the components below can be fragile. Also, if this tape is not completely detached from the LCD device, the metal tray can bend when being removed, and it's hard to get it straight once again. Note the foil tape doesn't have to be completely removed, merely un-stuck from the LCD below.

Next, remove the yellow tape affixing the edges of the metal tray to the LCD and / or laptop frame.
