Quanta Scores Contract With Toshiba
AUO and Chi Mei To Benefit As Well
Quanta computer recently gained a contract to manufacture liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs for Toshiba. The deal will also benefit AU Optronics (AUO), an LCD maker in Tawian and Chi Mei Optoelectronics. Both are Quanta's major LCD suppliers, and article on Cens.com reported.
Although Quanta's top brass refused to comment on the newest deal between the two companies, they did say that cooperation with Japanese suppliers would greatly help their company boost manufacturing technology for the LCD TVs. Quanta's projections for the end of the year are now to ship around 500,000 LCD TVs.
Sony is currently leading the Taiwanese LCD TV market, but Toshiba is close behind, bringing in 10% of the market. Toshiba has already gained a good reputation because of its feasible prices and good picture quality. Toshiba is currently the world's number seven brand supplier of LCD TVs, Cens.com reported.
Quanta scored the contract after Toshiba outsourced the production of notebook computers it the company.
Dealers estimated that Taiwan's LCD TV market will increase 60-70% or 400,000-450,000 systems this year from last, the article reported.
