HP Reclaims Top Position In Notebook Sales
Samsung Announces New Power Source Technology
DisplaySearch recently posted an article stating that HP has reclaimed the number one spot in worldwide notebook PC market share during the third quarter (Q3) of 2006. HP took the position held by Dell, who had overtaken HP just a year before.
Although HP took the top position, it was by a slim margin. HP sold just over 50,000 more units than Dell, growing approximately 36 percent quarter-to-quarter (Q/Q).
The Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report shows that HP led the market share with 17.9 percent followed by Dell, Acer, Toshiba and IBM/Lenovo. While HP did take over the market share lead, Acer had the highest growth Q/Q at 39 percent, and growing 49 percent year-over-year (Y/Y).
Other laptop computer makers also experienced significant growth Y/Y. Asus grew 68 percent and Apple 63 percent, according to the article.
While Samsung wasn't mentioned much in the DisplaySearch article, the company is making waves in the computer industry.
Samsung said they have developed a fuel cell expansion dock that will allow laptops to run for over a month on the same source.
The company said the product won't be available to consumers until the end of 2007, but this has already caused quite a bit of excitement.
Samsung promised that of the company's Q35 notebook's can run eight hours a day for 5 weeks with the new technology. The secret is the laptop will run on methanol, a type of alcohol.
The dock snaps in the back of the laptop and the size is similar to a regular docking station.
